Sukhraj Gill - Midterm - grade 10

Hey, i think that so far i have done really good in P.E and myself very happy with my effort within the class. I should get A because i find that unlike many, i give my best effort eery fitness activity and never try to find the easy way out or cheat my way out fitness. I personally love doing fitness because i see it as a way to improve my own personal fitness. I got 13 on the beep test which was awesome to get. I always come to class ready to actually work hard and i enjoy it. I always do the fitness properly and to the best of my ability so i myself can improve.

Active Learning 10/p-5 - Sukhraj Gill -

I think that do far into the semester you can see my athletic abilities but just the same as last year i wish to push my limit higher. A major thing i am working on is my stamina which has improved since last year but can still be worked on. I chose this to be an area to work on because it is key in hockey. I can work on it during long runs such as community runs, pond runs, and 30 minute runs.

Now aside from fitness, i am also trying to be more of active person with classmates by communicating trying to get others that are not that involved in the class, more involved.

Digital Evidence #1 - Sukhraj Gill

Even though i did have an injury, you helped  me not use that as an excuse and tough it out. I ended up getting 7, on the community run which I was so proud of my self for getting, instead of me sitting out and using my injury as an excuse.

Digital Evidence #2 - Sukhraj Gill

I got 10.9 on this beep test which i know is not my best but I did learn something that day. I learned that sometimes you just don't have a good day when you are ready to go to your physical max and this was one of those days for me. I know that this wont happen again and i will have to push my self next time for sure

Digital Evidence #4 - Sukhraj Gill

I chose to take these photos so I can show the extra physical activity i love to do outside of class. I love playing hockey, basketball and many other sports everyday with my neighborhood friends.

My Fitness - Sukhraj Gill

So I really liked the fitness story i saw on Nr.Neufs blog so i thought i would do something similar to show my progress.

So when I moved into the Sullivan Heights area and began going to go to my new school T.E Scott in grade 6 my life changed. I always loved soccer and had been playing soccer for around 4-5 years, that is until I made some new friends and played in our school ball hockey intermerals. That's when I first picked up a stick and I knew then that this is what I really love. Starting then i decided that i wanted to put soccer behind me and begin hockey and new chapter in my life.

Along this way I also began to make some new friends. These are kids that were in my class and kids that I lived near. Soon and quickly I became great friends with all these kids in my neighborhood and we began playing roller hockey in our neighborhood. Day and Night,  non stop, we would play hockey and I loved it with a passion and I still do.

Once I reached high school I really realized the pressure you get. I wanted to make a good impression and show that I was one of those athletic kids. So I tried out for the Sullivan ice hockey team and didn't make it and I was so upset and ashamed that I tried out and didn't make it when many of my classmates at least made the backup players list.

After that I started to become more determined to get better and make the team in a later grade when I know that I am ready to show everyone that I am good and am someone that they can think of as a good hockey player. Playing outside was no longer for fun but to test my self and become better.Training outside everyday helped me become better but I new that i had to take an extra step. So I began going to public skates to have some good exercise and get better at skating. I still believed then that fitness was a waste of time and i hated it with a passion and that there was no point of doing it when I knew I was a great athlete. That is until I came to grade 9 where I met you and you helped me change my thinking and attitude towards fitness. I began taking it much more seriously and found it as a great way to improve while trying to push my self to my max.  Improving every time I go out there for fitness. You helped me realize that it wasn't about me showing you that i was participating and just doing it to get a good grade but it was about me showing myself that i was improving in fitness and I was building myself up.
I also came in with the attitude that i am only going to try in the activities i like and the ones i am not good at or do not like i can just not give in effort. This attitude also changed greatly over the year. I now try to give a good effort in many sports I'm not good at such as basketball which i am not to fond of but give the effort to play it and possibly get better.

I do know that there has been many mistakes and obstacles in my way this year. When I first came into P.E in grade 9. I came in thinking fitness was bull and i could just slide by and get a good grade but after awhile I began to change my thinking. I use let friends get in the way of my fitness but now I truly know that for the most part that I have learned how to separate my self away from friends while my personal fitness. This was a major obstacle I had to overcome when it came to my personal fitness but i know that nearing the end, I have achieved my goal to separate away from friends.

Now I kind of really like fitness in the way that I know that it is for me and it is a way that I can reach my fitness goals. I didn't try out of the Sullivan ice hockey team this year but I will for sure next year when I know I am ready mentally and physically. I myself and maybe many others might be able to see my growth and improvement in fitness both mentally and physically over the past years. My habits and attitude that have changed so much in this past year will lead me to success in future years hopefully. I think i deserve an "A" this year not because i am good athlete but because of habits and attitude that have been adjusted, the  obstacles that I have overcome and the improvement I have had over this course.

I think that I have done well this year and I owe a lot of my improvement to you Mr.Neuf so thank you for being my teacher.

Sukhraj Gill - My Active Learning Experience

Hello Mr. Neuf,
I am going to tell you what grade I think I deserve and why, also answer the questions I found on your blog.

I have shown that I am willing and prepared to participate by coming with a positive attitude ready to do any activity. There have been a few activities this year which I would have in the past had a negative attitude towards but I have learnt to be willing to try and always give the effort. Last year as an example, I would not give a sufficient effort if it was an activity i was not very good at, such a s basket ball or a 25 minute run but i would if it was an activity such as hockey. I learned that if i really want to improve my fitness, i always have to give the effort. Now this year, i am actually excited to do activities such as basketball because I believe that it is better to try, no matter how bad your are, than sit on the side and not participate in the sport. Overall me bringing this kind of attitude to class is awesome.

My paragraph above already summarized this up, but this year I tried to give a good effort every class to improve my fitness but there were a few time where I was not performing and giving a very good effort and I worked hard to fix this problem. I think it was my biggest problem, it was the fact the I was letting friends get in my way my fitness. This is also where I struggled as well in fitness, i would let my friends slow me down from preforming at my best, but now, nearing half of our semester I learned to stay away from my friends and not let them get in the way of my fitness. What I am most proud of is being able to put aside my friends in order to stay focused on my fitness. I am now trying seperate my self away from some people in class such as brendon and trying to stay with Jasluv as he is a very good person that i can compete with and train with as he can help push me my fitness. I try to include fitness into my everyday life as I play lots of sports and especially hockey (ball, ice, roller), and using P.E is a good way to train my fitness in acticties such as insanity and beep test help.

I contribute to our class my bringing a positive energy and being friendly to my class mates. Over the year I have helped my class mates when needed and tried to stay friendly towards everyone. I interact with my class mates in a positive way as I like to talk to my class mates and keep them in a positive mood as well.

On fitness days in the beginning of the semester, I let friends get in the way of me not performing to the best of my abilities but now, I don't let that happen. I like fitness days as they are a good way for me to test my abilities and push my self to the limit. I am a very good runner so I like doing fitness activities such as the beep test.

I believe leadership is when someone is able to take the initiative and stand up for the betterment of others around them.

With the rest of the school year, I would like to stay on track I am going on. To focus on my personal fitness I am going to keep pushing my self to my limits in every activity that I take part in. An improvement I would like to make is to always stay focused on the task as there have been a few instances where I slacked off in class. I am determined to continue working on my leadership skills and fitness goals. I believe that I deserve an "A" in P.E class.

Thank You
Sukhraj Gill
